Andrew Gondek Earns Liberty League Weekly Award

Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) student-athlete Andrew Gondek of Ballston Spa 12180 has been selected for a weekly award by the Liberty League for an outstanding effort in soccer.

A senior captain and center back, Gondek earned Defensive Performer of the Week accolades after he anchored a back line that surrendered just 19 shots (8 on goal) in the two shutout victories last week. Offensively, he netted the only goal in RPI's 1-0 win over Clarkson on Friday afternoon. He also played all 180 minutes on the weekend. Gondek has started all 14 games for the Engineers this season and is averaging a field player-best 94.3 minutes per contest. He has scored one goal for two points, with 10 shots (3 on goal). He has helped Rensselaer to the fourth-best defensive record in the league, at 0.86 goals against per match, on an average of just 3.71 shots on target.

The Engineers (5-6-3; 3-2-1 Liberty League) are back in action on Wednesday, when they host Skidmore in a critical Liberty League match at East Campus Stadium (7:30pm).
