Andrew Gondek Named All-ECAC in Soccer

Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) student-athlete Andrew Gondek of Ballston Spa 12180 has been recognized by the ECAC, earning Division III North All-Star honors.

A senior captain and center back from Ballston Spa, N.Y., Gondek started all 19 games for the Engineers this season, leading a back line that posted nine shutouts and allowed just 3.68 shots on goal per game. Offensively, the All-Liberty League First Team honoree chipped in with one goal for two points on 16 shots (5 on goal). The team leader in minutes played per game (94.2), his one tally was a game-winner.

Twice earning CoSIDA Academic All-Region, Gondek is a multiple Liberty League All-Academic and Dean's List selection. He is a member of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) and has been a teaching assistant in the engineering department as well as the physics, applied physics, and astronomy department at Rensselaer. He has also been an engineering intern with D.A. Collins Construction Co., Inc., producing project plans and estimated budget forecasts with other project managers.

Gondek concludes his RPI career with 70 games played, including 66 as a starter. He recorded 11 points on four goals and three assists, with 30 shots (14 on target). The Ballston Spa High School graduate was credited with two game-winning goals.

The Engineers finished the season with an 8-7-4 overall recording, including a 5-2-1 Liberty League mark, which was good for third place. RPI fell to Vassar College in the conference semifinals.
