2016 Dec 7

Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) student-athlete Andrew Gondek of Ballston Spa 12180 has been named All-Region by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA).

A senior captain and center back chosen to the All-Region Third Team, Gondek started all 19 games for the Engineers this season, leading a back line that posted nine shutouts and allowed just 3.68 shots on goal per game. Offensively, he chipped in with one goal for two points on 16 shots (5 on goal). The team-leader in minutes played per game (94.2), the All-Liberty League First Team honoree's one tally was a game-winner. Gondek concludes his RPI career with 70 games played, including 66 as a starter. He recorded 11 points on four goals and three assists, with 30 shots (14 on target). The Ballston Spa High School graduate was credited with two game-winning goals.

The Engineers finished the season with an 8-7-4 overall recording, including a 5-2-1 Liberty League mark, which was good for third place. RPI fell to Vassar College in the conference semifinals.
