Benjamin Fazio Chosen For Liberty League Weekly Award

Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) student-athlete Benjamin Fazio of East Greenwich 02818 has been selected by the Liberty League for a weekly award.

Colin Smith (Sr., Bethesda, MD / Sidwell Friends), Jason Hall (So., Victor, NY / Victor), Noah Falasco (Fr., King of Prussia, PA / Upper Merion Area) and Ben Fazio (Sr., East Greenwich, RI / East Greenwich) were selected as the Track Performers of the Week after winning the DMR National Championship after posting a time of 9:56.42 at the NCAA Meet on Saturday. The squad defeated 11 others in becoming the first relay team in school history to win an NCAA title. Smith opened and ran a 3:04 in the 1200 meters to take the lead, handing off to Hall, who ran his 400 leg in 50 seconds. Falasco maintained the Engineers' third place spot with a 1:55 over 800 meters, handing to Fazio for the stretch. He fell back to fifth place for two laps before making a charge to take the lead, running a 4:05 over 1600 meters to hold off the opposition, including the runner-up by more than two seconds. Fazio went on to earn National All-America in the 3000 meters with a fourth place finish.
