Benjamin Fazio Wins NCAA DMR Championship

Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) student-athlete Benjamin Fazio of East Greenwich 02818 has won the men's distance medley relay at the NCAA Division III Men's and Women's Indoor Track & Field Championships.

Colin Smith, a senior, opened the race and ran a 3:04 to take the lead, handing off to Jason Hall, who ran his leg in 50 seconds. Noah Falasco, a freshman, maintained the Engineers' third place spot with a 1:55, handing to Ben Fazio for the stretch. The senior fell back to fifth place for two laps before making a charge to take the lead, running a 4:05 to hold off the opposition. SUNY Geneseo was second, more than two seconds behind (9:58.64), and Middlebury College in third (9:58.86). The foursome is Rensselear's second indoor national champion, joining Krishaun Gilmore, who won the 55-meters in 1997.
