2018 Jan 18
Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) student-athlete Bryan Hayes of Boylston 01505 has earned a year-end team award in football.
Hayes (Tahanto Regional), a safety who was named the Defensive Player of the Year, led the team with 85 tackles, including a team-best 52 unassisted. He had two tackles for lost yards (2), two interceptions, four pass breakups and a blocked kick. In addition to Defensive Player of the Year, he was also the recipient of a George Bode Award for perseverance.
RPI, which is coached by Ralph Isernia, made its fifth NCAA Tournament appearance - and first since 2007. The Engineers lost to nationally-ranked Wesley College, 45-27, on the road in the first round.
Founded in 1824, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute is America's oldest technological research university. For nearly two centuries, the Institute has been a driving force behind breakthroughs in engineering and science in virtually every arena-from transportation and infrastructure to business, medicine, outer space, and cyberspace.
As it approaches its bicentennial anniversary, the Institute continues to define The New Polytechnic, a new paradigm for teaching, learning, and research that uses advanced technologies to enable fresh collaborations across disciplines, sectors, and regions, in order to answer the global challenges of our day.
