Christian Kapp of RPI Football Named Liberty League Weekly Honoree

2017 Sep 11

Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) student-athlete Christian Kapp of Westchester 10501 has been selected for a weekly football award by the Liberty League.

Kapp (Iona Prep.), a senior kicker, was honored as the Liberty League Special Teams Performer of the Week after making four of his extra point attempts and scoring on a two-point conversion after picking up a loose ball off a blocked attempt and rushing it into the end zone. He also had six kickoffs for 371 yards (61.0 average) with five of them going for touchbacks. An industrial and management engineering major, Kapp was on the Weekly Honor Roll following the first game when he was successful on his only field goal attempt, a 23-yarder that ended the first half, and each of his six extra point attempts. He also had seven kickoffs for 445 yards, an average of 63.6 yards. One kickoff went for a touchback. Kapp, who was chosen to the Fred Mitchell Award 2017 Watch List, has made 15 of 24 field goals and 73 of 75 PATs in his career.

RPI (2-0) returns to action on Saturday when it hosts Western New England University in the first-ever meeting between the two programs. Kickoff is noon at East Campus Stadium.
