Jessica Kugelman Earns Liberty League Weekly Award

2016 Nov 15

Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) student-athlete Jessica Kugelman of Tappan (10983) has been selected for a weekly award by the Liberty League for an outstanding effort in swimming & diving.

The Rensselaer won two meets last week in part due to the Liberty League Diver of the Week, Kugelman (Tappan Zee), winning each of the four diving competitions. She won off the 1-meter board with 257.30 points, defeating three other competitors, and off the 3-meter board with 239.60 points as the Engineers defeated Vassar, 183-105. There were two others in the 3-meter event. In a 184-109 victory over Hartwick, Kugelman recorded 250.65 points from 1-meter and 236.55 from 3-meters to beat three others. This is the first Diver of the Week award for the civil engineering major, who was previously recognized once as the Rookie of the Week.

Rensselaer's teams, which have now had nine weekly award winners (6 men, 3 women) through the first four weeks of the season, are idle until December 2-3 when they compete in the Liberty League Championship Meet.

Founded in 1824, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute is America's oldest technological research university. For nearly two centuries, the Institute has been a driving force behind breakthroughs in engineering and science in virtually every arena-from transportation and infrastructure to business, medicine, outer space, and cyberspace.

As it approaches its bicentennial anniversary, the Institute continues to define The New Polytechnic, a new paradigm for teaching, learning, and research that uses advanced technologies to enable fresh collaborations across disciplines, sectors, and regions, in order to answer the global challenges of our day.
