Jessica Kugelman Earns Weekly League Award in Swimming

2017 Nov 8

Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) student-athlete Jessica Kugelman of Tappan 10983 has been chosen for a weekly swimming award by the Liberty League.

Kugelman (Tappan Zee HS), a sophomore who was selected as the Diver of the Week, won from both boards, including a second-cut qualifier for the NCAA Regional Meet. She was first (255.38) of 10 from 1-meter by nearly 44 points (211.43) and then was victorious from 3-meters, which had 11 competitors, by more than 66 points with a score of 268.87. The runner-up had 202.50 points. Following RPI's first meet three weeks ago, Kugelman was honored after she helped the Engineers defeat RIT, 203-97, by winning twice. In the 1-meter competition, she registered a score of 258.75 to beat nine others, including the runner-up, who finished with a 207.20. She then won from 3-meters with 245.75 points, which was almost 50 points better than the second place finisher (195.50). There were six competitors in the event.

Rensselaer, which is 4-0 and ranked No. 23 in the nation, competes in two meets this weekend as it hosts Vassar on Saturday (1pm) and travels to Hartwick on Sunday (1pm).
