2017 Jan 31

Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) student-athlete Jessica Kugelman of Tappan 10983 has been selected for an award by the Liberty League. The freshman was named the Women's Diver of the Week after earning top rookie honors each of the two weeks prior.

Kugelman (Tappan Zee HS) was recognized after winning both the 1-meter and 3-meter competitions in a 179.50-113.50 win over Hamilton College. She collected 239.15 points from 1-meter, 34.50 points in front of the second place finisher, and 241.65 points from 3 meters. She won the 3-meter competition by 49.55 points.

The civil engineering major has now earned Diver of the Week twice (Nov. 14 & Jan. 30) and Rookie of the Week three times (Oct. 24, Jan. 16 & Jan. 23). She has helped the No. 23 Engineers to a dual meet record of 7-1 and second place finishes at the Liberty League Championship Meet (10 schools) and the RPI Kumpf Invitational (6).

A six-year member of her high school's swimming & diving team, Kugelman earned the team's Most Improved award twice and MVP once. She was ranked 22nd in New York State during her senior season.
