2017 Jan 17

Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) student-athlete Jessica Kugelman of Tappan 10983 has been earned a weekly award from the Liberty League for outstanding performances in the pool

Kugelman (Tappan Zee), a diver who is now a two-time Rookie of the Week, won twice and had a pair of third place finishes last week. She captured victories from both boards against the Dutchwomen. She had 239.25 points off the 1-meter board, finishing 39 points in front of the runner-up (200.02), and 243.45 from 3-meters, which was nearly 40 points ahead of the second place finisher (216.75). In the RPI Kumpf Invite at Robison Pool the next day, she was third from both boards. Kugelman had 246.60 points in 1-meter, which had 14 divers, and 247.70 from 3-meters. There were 12 competitors in the 3-meter event.

Both the men's (6-0) and women's (5-1) teams return to the water on Saturday when they host Skidmore in a dual meet. Rensselaer has won 15 consecutive men's dual meets, while the women are 12-1 over the past two seasons.

Founded in 1824, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute is America's oldest technological research university. For nearly two centuries, the Institute has been a driving force behind breakthroughs in engineering and science in virtually every arena-from transportation and infrastructure to business, medicine, outer space, and cyberspace.

As it approaches its bicentennial anniversary, the Institute continues to define The New Polytechnic, a new paradigm for teaching, learning, and research that uses advanced technologies to enable fresh collaborations across disciplines, sectors, and regions, in order to answer the global challenges of our day.
