2018 Jan 18

Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) student-athlete John Ramsdell of Haverhill 01830 has earned a year-end team award in football.

The Scholar-Athlete of the Year, Ramsdell (Haverhill), a senior slotback, is a biomedical engineering major with a 3.72 cumulative grade point average. He is a three-time Liberty League All-Academic honoree and a three-time CoSIDA Academic All-District choice. On the field in 2017, he started all 11 games, running 22 times for 97 yards and a touchdown and catching 24 passes for 280 yards and four scores. He also returned seven kickoffs for 162 yards.

RPI, which is coached by Ralph Isernia, made its fifth NCAA Tournament appearance - and first since 2007. The Engineers lost to nationally-ranked Wesley College, 45-27, on the road in the first round.

Founded in 1824, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute is America's oldest technological research university. For nearly two centuries, the Institute has been a driving force behind breakthroughs in engineering and science in virtually every arena-from transportation and infrastructure to business, medicine, outer space, and cyberspace.

As it approaches its bicentennial anniversary, the Institute continues to define The New Polytechnic, a new paradigm for teaching, learning, and research that uses advanced technologies to enable fresh collaborations across disciplines, sectors, and regions, in order to answer the global challenges of our day.
