Josephine Lyons Earns Liberty League Weekly Award

Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) student-athlete Josephine Lyons of Harwood (20776) has been selected for a weekly award by the Liberty League for an outstanding effort in soccer.

A freshman goalkeeper, Lyons was named Defensive Performer of the Week after she went 2-0 in Liberty League play last week, with a pair of shutouts. She recorded 11 total saves as the Engineers won a pair of 1-0 games at Clarkson and St. Lawrence. After stopping all six shots she faced against the Golden Knights on Friday, she had five saves in blanking the Saints on Saturday. Lyons has started all 14 games for the Engineers this season, posting an 11-3-0 record, with a 0.43 goals against average and a .906 save percentage. She has eight shutouts and 58 totol saves, including a season-high nine on October 1 against first-ranked William Smith. The Liberty League leader in shutouts per game (.571) and total saves (58), Lyons is second in goals against average (0.43) and save percentage (.906) and fourth in saves per game (4.14).

Rensselaer (11-3-0; 3-2-0 Liberty League) returns to action on Tuesday night when it hosts area-rival Union College at East Campus Stadium (7:30pm).
