Laurel Dean of RPI Lacrosse Earns Year-End Award

Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) student-athlete Laurel Dean of Southington 06489 has been selected to the Liberty League for an outstanding season in lacrosse.

A junior defender who was named All-Liberty League Honorable Mention, Dean started all 15 games for the Engineers in 2017, posting one assist for one point. She scooped up 19 ground balls and was second on the team with 11 caused turnovers. Recording multiple ground balls in five games, she picked up a season-high four against Rochester on April 2. She registered multiple caused turnovers in four games, including a season-best three at St. Lawrence on April 7. In nine Liberty League games, Dean had 14 ground balls and eight ground balls, which was good for second on the club. Two of her five yellow cards came during league play. The former Southington High School standout posted at least one ground ball in all but once conference contest. Dean has played in 35 career games at RPI, recording one goal and two assists for three points. She has three shots, including one on goal, with 40 ground balls and 16 caused turnovers.

The Engineers went 6-9 this season, including a 4-5 mark in Liberty League play.
