Melinda Wilson of RPI Track & Field Team Earns Honor

2016 Dec 6

Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) student-athlete Melinda Wilson of Nahant 01908 has been named a recipient of a weekly award by the Liberty League.

A junior, Mazur (Brookfield HS) earned Track Performer of the Week after she had a win in the 60 meter dash and a second place finish in the 300 - the two events in which she competed at the Utica Invitational. She beat seven others to capture the 60 meter dash finals in a time of 8.40 and then finished second of eight in the 300 with a time of 45.08. As a team, the Engineers were second of the six competing schools. In indoor as a sophomore, Mazur, a materials engineering major, helped the 4x400 relay team win at Ithaca College (4:20.30) and was part of the second place 4x200 team at the Liberty League Championship Meet (1:50.48).

Rensselaer, which is coached by Colin Tory, returns to competition on January 14 at Utica.

Founded in 1824, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute is America's oldest technological research university. For nearly two centuries, the Institute has been a driving force behind breakthroughs in engineering and science in virtually every arena-from transportation and infrastructure to business, medicine, outer space, and cyberspace.

As it approaches its bicentennial anniversary, the Institute continues to define The New Polytechnic, a new paradigm for teaching, learning, and research that uses advanced technologies to enable fresh collaborations across disciplines, sectors, and regions, in order to answer the global challenges of our day.
