Monica Mazur of RPI Track & Field Team Earns Honor

2016 Dec 6

Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) student-athlete Monica Mazur of Brookfield 06804 has been named a recipient of a weekly award by the Liberty League.

Wilson (Swampscott HS), a senior captain, was chosen to the Weekly Honor Roll after she had a win in the weight throw and a second place finish in the shot put at Utica. She beat 19 others to capture the weight with a distance of 13.93 meters and then finished second of 16 in the shot with a throw of 11.40 meters. Last year, the mechanical engineering major joined Mazur as part of the 4x200 team that was runner-up at the league championship, while also running on the third place 4x400 team (4:19.68). Wilson competed in the shot put as well, placing fifth (10.71 meters).

Rensselaer, which is coached by Colin Tory, returns to competition on January 14 at Utica.

Founded in 1824, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute is America's oldest technological research university. For nearly two centuries, the Institute has been a driving force behind breakthroughs in engineering and science in virtually every arena-from transportation and infrastructure to business, medicine, outer space, and cyberspace.

As it approaches its bicentennial anniversary, the Institute continues to define The New Polytechnic, a new paradigm for teaching, learning, and research that uses advanced technologies to enable fresh collaborations across disciplines, sectors, and regions, in order to answer the global challenges of our day.
